Fujifilm GF 45-100 mm f4

I am sure everyone have heard about this latest lens from Fujifilm
Its the GF 45-100 mm f4..

Thanks to Fujifilm Singapore, I was able to use this preproduction set during my workshop in Jiangnan, China in Dec 2019

I have always loved my GF110mm lens.
And occasionally, I do use the GF100-200mm, GF23mm and the GF 63mm lens.
I have to admit that I seldom use the GF32-64mm lens, nothing wrong with it. but just not a focal length I use often

So when this lens was first announced, I was quite excited, because the focal length is something that I might use.

From the image below, you can see that the size of the lens is not much different from the GF 110 mm lens
The build of the lens is great as usual, similar to the other GF lenses

Again, as a non technical guy, I will not talk much about the technical aspects of the lens
But really more of a user experience

All the images here are taken with the GFX 100

During my trip in China, I actually had this lens on the camera the whole time.
Because its so versatile and great to use.

MOst of the times, I have the GF110 mm lens on my GFX 100
ANd other lenses on my XT3

But for this trip, its the very first time, that I used only 1 lens ( GF45-100mm)
Even though I brought my other lenses and XT3 along with me
My workshop participants noticed it as well.. and asked why I did not use my XT3 :p

My only answer is that this lens is so useful in all my shots, that I am pretty happy with it and
did not find a need to change lenses or cameras

I can shoot wide at 45 mm, which is about 35mm on a full frame, which is perfect.
And at the other end at 100mm, I can photograph portraits or landscapes at ease too..

Of cos you will not enjoy the bokeh the GF 110 mm lens produces.
But photography is more than just bokeh..
So unless I am shooting weddings, or badly lit places where i need that extra stop, I am very comfortable with this lens.

Then the most important question that people might ask is about the image quality
HOw is the sharpness, how is the focusing speed etc etc..

The following images show the conditions that I was shooting at
From street, to twilight to dark locations..
I did not have much problems with focusing.
I also did not find the images any less sharp compared to the GF110mm lens.
But of cos, I did not compare images side by side..
So I might be wrong..
But based on my photos in the trip ( which I have gone many times before with the GF110mm lens) , I am
very happy with this latest lens that Fujifilm came out with

For a travel photographer, who might need to travel light at times,
this lens provides me with the flexibility without compromising on the quality of the images.

As of now, I do not know the price of this lens, but my guess is that it has to be cheaper than the GF110mm f2 lens
So if I only have budget for one lens, then this has to be the one
