I joined William for a trip to Xiapu near Fuzhou in Nov 2025.
As this was my first dedicated photography focused workshop/expedition, my Intention was to learn what seasoned photographers do to get those amazing images. All my objectives were more than met, as I learnt about scene research and preparation, composition, framing, looking out for unusual stories within a photo, contrasts and dynamic range, shadows etc. William taught by example through his own photos, which made it a lot easier for us to emulate his eye for a shot with whatever equipment we have.
Xiapu is a very beautiful coastal town with all the photographic sites a short drive from where we were staying. Add to the wonderful food (William is quite a foodie too) that we had together with great company, it turned out to be a wonderful holiday in which having lots of photography was just the icing on the cake.
Highly recommended for anyone with a passion for photography. Anyone with a smartphone or large medium format cameras and everything in between will find something useful for themselves. My friend whom I persuaded to join me for this trip and who was relatively new to landscape photography was so impressed by the experience and by what he learnt that I think he now has a newfound hobby and passion.

I attended a photography workshop in Nov 2025 at Xiapu conducted by William Chua, an award winning Singaporean Photographer.
It was my first trip with William and it has been an eye opener and very rewarding experience.
From William, I learned that taking a photo is not 打卡 but rather creating an art piece. He is an enthusiastic teacher, taking every opportunities to teach us how to compose, what angle to take, what patterns and colors to look out for, and how to use under and over exposure, lights and shadows to create art pieces. All these teachings were done hands on at the carious sites real time.
I have learned so much in the few days and these lessons can never be learned in classrooms. I posted some of my shots in Facebook and received so many accolades even though pale in comparison to William’s shots.
Other than photography, we enjoyed great food at every meals and stayed in a great hotel during the trip.
Thank you, William,
